History

The Kiwanis Club of Midland was chartered in July 1921. It was the 18th Kiwanis Club in Michigan. The members immediately went to work to improve the Midland community.

1938: The Club acquired and refurbished Camp Neyati on Crooked Lake (near Farwell, MI). The original purchase was 92 acres in size with 2,000 feet of water frontage.

1944: The Club participated in the definition and implementation of the current City of Midland water supply system from Lake Huron. Previously the city water was obtained from the Tittabawasee River.

1959: The Club established the Midland Kiwanis Foundation. The Foundation provides grants to local tax exempt organizations and groups.

1966: The Club was instrumental in the design, funding and construction of Cleveland Manor, the first affordable Senior Housing development in Midland.

1967:  The Club sponsored the organization of the Kiwassee Kiwanis Club in Midland.

1991 to present: The Club actively participates in the purchase and installation of playground equipment. The Salvation Army, Plymouth Park, North Midland Family Center, Coleman Family Center, West Midland Family Center, ESA Longview and Shelterhouse are examples of those who have benefited.

2021 – 2023: Midland Kiwanis played an important role in the design of a playground for Pediatric Center of MidMichigan. The Midland Kiwanis Foundation provided significant dollars to purchase equipment and the Club provided people to prepare and level the ground, lay the necessary material on the surface to provide a safe place for the children, assemble the equipment and “planted” the assembled equipment. It is the largest playground project Midland Kiwanis Club and Foundation has been involved in.
