The Hunger Solutions Center is a 20-year partnership between the East Side Soup Kitchen of Saginaw and Hidden Harvest that provides a facility for food distribution in the Great Lakes Bay region and serving meals and food to those in need in Saginaw. With food insecurity needs growing rapidly to an estimated 66,000 families in the region, the Center is pursuing a major expansion. Jim, a retired SVSU admissions administrator and regular volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, was called to lead the fundraising effort for this project, originally estimated at $3 million but now estimated at $8.8 million
Kiwanian Earl Soules serves as the project manager for the expansion, while Cardinal Solutions engaged SVSU students to develop the marketing & promotions tools for the fundraising campaign. After 3 years, the campaign has reached 98% of its goal at $8.1 million, and construction is underway with completion targeted for December. On World Hunger Day (May 28) The campaign will launch a “Pass the Plate” program to further push toward its goal. Jim is very thankful for the support he has received from numerous foundations and organizations in Midland County who have generously supported the project.
